How it works

You transfer securities (minimum of $25,000) to the West Virginia University Foundation (minimum of $25,000).

The West Virginia University Foundation pays you, or up to two annuitants you name, a lifetime annuity (beginning at age 50 or later, payments made quarterly).

The principal passes to West Virginia University Foundation when the contract ends, to benefit WVU, West Virginia 4-H, Potomac State College of WVU or the Mountaineer Athletic Club.

Benefits

• You receive an immediate income tax deduction for a portion of your gift.
• Your lifetime annuity is backed by a reserve and the full assets of the WVU Foundation.
• Your annuity payments are treated as part ordinary income, part capital gains income (15%), and part tax-free income.
• You have the satisfaction of making a significant gift that benefits you now and West Virginia University later.
• You may specify that your gift will become a permanent endowment fund with the WVU Foundation.

Note: The WVU Foundation is not able to offer gift annuities to residents of Alabama, California, Hawaii, New Jersey, Washington and Wisconsin, but other income-producing gifts are available.
